Description:

This is a comprehensive course in the use and operation of word processing software on a microcomputer. Topics covered include entering, editing, formatting, saving, retrieving, using writing tools, and printing varied documents. Advanced and specialized topics to be covered include tables, merge, macros, outlining, templates, footnotes/endnotes, headers/footers, page numbering, hyphenation, search and replace, and graphics. Several projects will be completed during the semester.

Course Requirements:

Orientation: No
As your instructor, I will send you an intro letter a few days before the class begins. This letter will introduce you to Blackboard and help you get started.

Campus Visits: Yes
You will be required to come to the college to take a final hands on assessment in Word.

Software/Resources: Yes
Students will be using Microsoft Word 2007. Students should have the Office 2007 suite loaded on their computer. If you do not have the entire suite, students will be able to use the lab, T221 to complete homework assignments. If you are using an older version of Word, or a MAC Computer, please let your instructor know.

This course is for you if you....

  • can discipline yourself to study independently
  • have several hours on a weekly basis to read the text and research course assignments
  • can work without regular classroom contact with your instructor
  • cannot attend a regularly scheduled class
