Description:

A course designed to improve communication skills and prepare a student for success in a team environment. Topics include sentence and paragraph construction, punctuation, document formatting, techniques in composing and evaluating business letters, employment letters, resumes, memorandums, and electronic messages.

Course Requirements:

Orientation: No

Campus Visits: Yes

This course is completely online with no campus visits except for the final exam, which must be taken in the CLC testing center. If you are outside of the Illinois area, arrangements can be made so you can take the final exam at your location.

Software/Resources: No

This course is for you if you....

  • are motivated to frequently login to our online course and complete online activities.
  • enjoy participating and working in a group.
  • can discipline yourself to study independently and meet assignment deadlines.
  • are seriously interested in learning and improving your writing skills.
We will be using Mary Ellen Guffey's Business Communication: Process & Product, 6th edition. Our textbook is a customized textbook that contains only the chapters we will be covering and has a $50 savings (approximately) compared to the full textbook version. You can use the full textbook version or purchase our customized edition in the bookstore.

Our textbook is packaged with a WebTutor Advantage code, but you can purchase the code for about $20 at the publisher's Web site if you purchase a textbook without the code. You will be asked to enter this access code once so you can view supplemental learning material throughout the semester.

You will receive my welcome letter with textbook information about a week before our course begins.
